Afghan DAO

Who are we?

We are a collective, open group of individuals from around the world who care deeply about preserving Afghanistan’s culture and heritage.

Our mission

To crowdsource & preserve Afghanistan’s culture & history by storing various stories & media on the blockchain. We plan to do this by democratizing access to these records by leveraging Web3’s decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) structure. Our goal is to prevent Afghanistan’s history and records from being erased as they have in the past.

The On-Chain Heritage Preservation Project

Details coming soon for how we plan to store & index on-chain data directly to the blockchain.

How does this work?

To those who may be new to Web3, blockchains, or cryptocurrency:

  • What is the blockchain? → Think of this as a distributed computer, rather than creating a website or uploading information to Facebook where Facebook owns rights to your profile and information, the blockchain allows people to post & host information on a distributed computer where only you own the information you store, not some centralized corporation.
  • Who controls this information? → You control the information. In the case of the Afghan DAO, if you are the creator of the content, you can mint your content as an NFT (non-fungible token) so you have exclusive digital rights and ownership — we would help facilitate that ownership so we can index the Afghan records. If you don’t own the information (like a library or a museum), we would state this in text within the code when minting the NFT, but again use this record so that it can be retrievable. Unlike storing this on a traditional website, whose administrator can decide to delete the database if they wish, in this case it can NEVER be deleted — this is mathematically verified and why cryptocurrencies can run on a public blockchain, it is backed by ironclad, powerful cryptographic mathematics.
  • Who owns the media?
  • How does the information get stored?
  • Why even do all this? → Afghanistan’s history has never been well-preserved. Much of the history survived due to the various diasporas, but regime after regime continued to place the culture and history at risk.

How will we achieve this?
